Bible Reading Day 97

Day 97 – Luke 10:25-42

Read online.

Good morning, Happy Sunday!

Our first Sunday after celebrating the Resurrection and our mega-series in Luke’s Gospel begins. Of course, as a daily reader you already have a start on Luke’s account of Jesus’ life!

Today the theme of our passage is “Doing What Is Right.”

The section starts with a religious expert testing Jesus about what is right to do (which is a little ironic). Jesus asks the man how he reads the instructions in the Law, and the man has exactly the same answer as Jesus would give (Matthew 22:37 and Mark 12:30). Seeking to go one step further, the man asks “who is my neighbor?”

That is when Jesus tells a shocking story – the good Samaritan. We forget how radical this story was in Jesus’ day; the Samaritans were hated sinners. The concept of a GOOD Samaritan was as impossible as a Good Nazi! Of course the point is that God wants you and me to show mercy (love) to whoever needs it. It’s the right thing to do.

How does that affect your day today?

Finally, a warning for us all from the lives of Mary and Martha: don’t be so stuck on what you think God wants you to do, that you forget to listen to Him and relish relationship! Listening is the right thing to do.

Have a great day!
