Bible Reading Day 99
Day 99 – Luke 11:29-54
Almost 100 days! Well done!
Today Jesus has much to say about religion’s power (or lack of it). We saw yesterday that part of the demand on Jesus was to prove Himself with miracles, but demanding proof shows we do not accept the authority of the one we accuse. That was the mistake of the religious leaders – they refused the authority of Jesus because it threatened their own sense of authority.
Verse 35 is especially poignant in that context: “Make sure that the light you think you have is not actually darkness.”
When we fall into this trap, we do two things: we fixate on details (missing the big picture of God’s love) and we claim to have answers without letting anyone else participate in those answers. Those were the errors of the Pharisees and the teachers of the Law, and God is the enemy of such attitudes and practices.
In contrast, Jesus shows us a way of shining with light, and listening to God, that will always bring us back into His arms, no matter how far we stray!
Have a great day!
