Bible Reading Day 141
Day 141 – John 7:32-53
Yesterday we read how impressed the crowd were with Jesus’ teaching. They said “would you expect the Messiah to do more miraculous signs than this man has done?” In response the Pharisees sent guards to arrest Him, but Jesus’ response (“I will be with you only a little longer. Then I will return to the one who sent me. You will search for me but not find me. And you cannot go where I am going.”) confuses them. Human wisdom cannot understand the ways of God!
At the end of the feast, Jesus cries out and calls everyone who is thirsty to come to Him and drink. He promises the refreshing water of the Holy Spirit to anyone who is simply needy! The only qualification for being filled with the Holy Spirit is to be thirsty. All may come and receive!
The crowd are stirred up by this and some say Jesus is the Messiah, while others are swayed by the Pharisees’ opinions and doubt that He can be the Messiah because He is from Galilee. Which just serves to underline that we don’t always have all the information, and to make judgments based on what we know is foolish. The Pharisees take this a step further and silence all dissent with their own (wrong) opinions. Interestingly, their own guards are swayed by Jesus’ teaching and refuse to follow orders to arrest Him!
The Word of God is powerful and influential, while human wisdom is fallible and unreliable; unless it is filled with the flow of the living water of the Holy Spirit.
Have a great day!
