Bible Reading Day 158

Day 158: John 16:1-15

Good morning!

Reminder: the YouVersion plan had today’s and yesterday’s readings reversed. I have put them in the chapter order for clarity.

As the time before His death shortens, Jesus gets more and more definitive about what is going to happen. He tells His friends that they will be persecuted (just as Jesus has been persecuted by the religious leaders). He also promises the Holy Spirit’s  coming.

The Holy Spirit convicts the world of sin, God’s righteousness, and of the coming judgment. The world’s sin is that it refuses to believe in Jesus. Righteousness is available because Jesus goes to the Father. This shows us that righteousness is much more than observance of laws (as the religious leaders insist). Righteousness is the result of Jesus dying, and going ahead of us to the Father; allowing us to follow, guided by the Holy Spirit.

Jesus refers to the Holy Spirit as the Spirit of truth, who guides us into all truth. The primary way the Holy Spirit does this is by bringing the power of the Word of God to life in our lives. He is looking for open, responsive hearts who will welcome Him. Then He becomes our Advocate.

How does the Holy Spirit want to lead you today?

Have a great day!
