Day 254: September 11 (2 Corinthians 2)

Good morning!

Today Paul continues his defense against the false teacher who had caused such trouble in the church in Corinth, and in the process gives us keys for restoration after a sin or failure has been addressed.

The principle Paul holds to is that of forgiveness. Now that the problem has been exposed, addressed, and refuted, the path forward goes through the gate of forgiveness. It is not Paul’s purpose to crush the sinner, but to seek redemption. It is clear from his actions that he is motivated by compassion and a heart for restoration. Even when there was an open door of opportunity in Troas, Paul wanted to move on to Macedonia in an effort to find Titus and get his report on the Corinthians.

And all along the way, God uses Paul and his companions as signs of God’s love, and messengers of grace. Misunderstood by those who do not follow God, they are nonetheless fragrant to those who are being saved. Salvation is a decision followed by a process (and there is usually a process leading to the decision too). Thank God for those who come alongside us to spread God’s love and the fragrance of Jesus, often at great personal cost.

Who smells like Jesus in your life?

Have a great day!
