Bible Reading Day 274

Day 274: October 1 (Ephesians 2)

Good morning!

I hope you are enjoying Ephesians – it is one of my favorite books! I know you will get a great deal out of each chapter as you read, so I will try not to make these emails longer than the chapters although there is so much content in each one!

In Chapter 2, Paul focuses on redemption. This reconciliation with God, which restores us to our original design, is accomplished through Jesus. First Paul shows us that we have been made alive in Christ (verses 1-10). This first section includes the first of our key verses for the book: 8 For by grace you have been saved through faith ; and that not of yourselves, it is the gift of God ; 9 not as a result of works, so that no one may boast.

Next Paul directs our attention to our unity with Christ, and the peace that brings (verses 11-18). There are so many powerful truths in this section; I recommend copying some into a notebook or highlighting them in your Bible.

Thirdly, Paul switches metaphors and describes us as a building, a temple for the Lord (verses 19-22). The amazing fact here is that the Gentiles (the outsiders) are included in the building. There are no outsiders in God. Whatever you feel disqualifies you for grace is dealt with in redemption. The only condition is faith in Jesus. That’s reason enough to celebrate today.

Have a great day!
